Is Magnetic Refrigeration the Future of Commercial Refrigeration?

November 27, 2017

Innovations in the HVAC industry have come a long way in recent years. Many new technologies and products make life easier, save you money, and create less environmental impact for Opelika, Alabama, citizens. If you’re looking for a smarter way to cool your business space, the future is here with the introduction of magnetic refrigeration in commercial buildings.

What Is Magnetic Refrigeration?

Magnetic refrigeration systems are like traditional cooling units, but they don’t use as much electricity or create as much noise. These cutting-edge commercial systems change the temperature of magnetocaloric materials by exposing them repeatedly to magnetic fields. As the magnetocaloric substances are magnetized and demagnetized, a coolant made from mostly water pumps through them. The coolant transfers the heat from inside the commercial unit to the outside.

Benefits of Magnetic Refrigeration Systems

There are many advantages to choosing these units for a business. Getting energy savings is the top benefit. Manufacturers believe that magnetic fridges use about half of the energy of a traditional system. Permanent magnets inside don’t need any outside energy to create the magnetic field.

Refrigerant gases are known pollutants, and contractors follow strict standards. However, magnetic systems don’t use any refrigerant gas. These units don’t fall under stringent government regulations since there are no refrigerants involved. No gases means no dangerous gas leaks. Even magnetic emissions are low with these designs; levels are similar to that of a decorative fridge magnet.

Magnetic refrigeration systems don’t require a lot of maintenance. The low pressure and low rotation of the unit’s parts create less wear and tear over time. Business owners will never have to call a service technician for a gas or chemical leak. Magnetic refrigeration units are also quieter than traditional units and create less vibrations. They don’t run constantly either.
